Love’s Reward
When I look at you,
I see a woman and child,
Two undivided
Parts of a single person.
To which shall I give my love?
The child within me,
Loves the child’s laughter in you,
And your eye’s sparkle
When you see someone you love,
And your little-girl faces.
The old man in me
Sees a passion within you,
Hidden in your smile,
And the way your body moves
To the music of your soul.
If love is a gift,
I will give this one to me,
To love all of you;
The child to keep my age young,
The woman, for my passion.
I will hold you in my heart,
Both child and woman,
A beginning, and an end,
Love’s promise, and love’s reward.
