No Sadder Words
Wednesday, December 28th, 2005There are no sadder words for man to hear,
When spoken as an echo to your own,
“I love you,” to your face, not in your ear.
Though coming from a heart that’s quite sincere,
From someone you would place upon a throne,
There are no sadder words for man to hear.
Though others may implore you, “Have good cheer,”
To hear it spoken thus, you turn to stone,
“I love you,” to your face, not in your ear.
It isn’t in what’s said, that doubts appear,
But in the way the words have been intoned,
There are no sadder words for man to hear.
A flat response can only be too clear,
That feeling, to the words, is just unknown,
“I love you,” to your face, not in your ear.
For words that simply echo, bring a tear
Of sadness, such as you have never known,
There are no sadder words for man to hear,
“I love you,” to your face, not in your ear.
