In Chaos

It fell in chaos,
My last year, like an old tree
Standing on dead roots,
Limbs, unsteady in the wind,
Waiting for the storm to come.
And the storm did come,
Dreams, tossed about like dead leaves,
Hopes, dashed against time,
The fates, laughing like lightening
In clouds of my confusion.
Tears, falling like rain
Upon my life’s barren earth,
Rising to a flood
That would purge the detritus
Of my last year, in chaos.
