Two lives,
One life for you,
And the other for me.
Do you live my life, to keep me
From yours?

So easy to say,
“I love you, and always will.”
But what is this love?
Does it cause fire and dampness
To begin at your center?
Is it the love that
Brings the color of roses
To your cheek and breast,
Even when we are apart,
When I’m just a memory?
Or is this the love
That warms you in the winter
Like an old blanket,
Wrapped snugly about your feet,
As you sip a fine brandy?
I would be happy
To live as your old blanket,
If just for a time,
You would let the flame of love
Burn us, until it goes out.

Each time I see you,
All my confidence dissolves,
And I hide inside
The child you see before you
With the foolish little smile.
Each time I see you,
All the words within my head,
Fall into my mouth,
And stumble on each other,
Trying hard to get to you.
Each time I see you,
Though we have so little time,
All the time we have
Is time I’ve spent in pleasure,
Hoping you’ve enjoyed it too.
Each time I see you,
All the feelings deep inside,
Well up in my mind,
And in the flood, I know,
I don’t see you near enough.
